Amy Liu is a New York–based painter, soprano, and writer whose work explores ornamentation as a language of the self. Rooted in the traditions of European painting and decorative arts, her practice reclaims adornment not as vanity, but a conduit for heritage, remembrance, reverie, and ephemerality. Her paintings examine the tension between ornament as revelation and concealment, asking whether we embellish ourselves to express who we are or to protect what is unseen. Through maximalist yet intimate imagery, Liu regards ornament with a patient, discerning eye: a narrative of identity, sometimes unveiled, sometimes veiled, but always divulging oneself to the world in ways words cannot.

Liu received her MFA in Painting from the New York Academy of Art in 2022. Her interdisciplinary background in art history, creative writing, digital art, and opera continues to inform the narrative sensitivity, theatrical precision and historic reflection of her paintings. Liu presented her debut solo exhibition, Oasis, at VillageOneArt Gallery in 2022. In June 2025, she had her second solo exhibition, Jeweled Realms, with Latitude Gallery, further expanding her visual exploration of opulence and interiority. Liu’s work has been exhibited internationally in major art centers including New York, Miami, London, Singapore, Hong Kong and Shanghai. She has shown with galleries such as Harper’s, Marinaro Gallery, Latitude Gallery, IRL Gallery, Paul W. Zuccaire Gallery, and Wilkinson Gallery. She has participated in leading art fairs including Untitled Miami, Future Fair, ART SG, and ART021.
